Generic Effexor is a medication that belongs to the class of selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors. By restoring the balance of brain chemicals, it can effectively treat depression, anxiety and panic disorder.

How to take

Generic Effexor should be taken in strict compliance with your doctor’s instructions and directions on the prescription label. The dosage might be gradually increased by your medical specialist in the first few days of treatment to let your body adjust better. However, do not change the dosage or stop taking the medication abruptly without prior medical consult, as it may lead to the increase of side effects.

Side effects

Stop taking the medication and seek urgent medical help if you have any of the following side effects: uneven/fast heartbeat, pain in the chest area, acute headache, heavy breathing, painful or difficult urination, rash.

Drug interactions

Notify your healthcare provider on any medications you are taking, especially MAO inhibitors (e.g., , phenelzine, tranylcypromine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, furazolidone), cimetidine, antidepressants, sedatives, lithium, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., morphine, codeine), seizure and certain migraine medications (e.g., sumatriptan), drugs for weight management. Do not combine the medication with alcohol.

Missed dose

If you have missed your dose of Effexor, make sure to take it as soon as possible. However, two doses should never be taken at the same time, so if the time for the next dose has almost come, DO NOT take the dose you have missed.
